Gender distinctions are real and they matter because God matters.

But I'm also somewhat troubled. I feel like there is an elephant in the sanctuary. You mention the need for ministers to be masculine and how clothing and behavior send an important message, to which I wholeheartedly agree. But doesn't hair factor into this too?Jacobnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8690015360043647739.post-45301373088875366162015-10-22T06:28:23.783-05:002015-10-22T06:28:23.783-05:00Excellent well thought comments an arguments again...Excellent well thought comments an arguments against the onslaught that has become Christian radio!
If only more people would b more discerning an sensitive to the Holy Spirit.
When can we expect part of 2 on "why I love an hate christian radio"? Perhaps we are using different definitions of what it means to be a pragmatist, but with all due respect, an inapplicable law is highly un-pragmatic. Two thousand years of unsuccessful efforts flies in the face of pragmatism which thrives off of success. One might even say that the Sermon on the Mount was an all out attack on pragmatism. The Pharisees and the like followed the Mosaic Law through their own pragmatic filter. The found success by doing the least amount of effort. They could proudly say that they had never committed murder or adultery because they measured murder and adultery by their own scale of success. Their pragmatic philosophy made the unattainable attainable. In the Sermon on the Mount, Christ revealed the fullness and yes, the unattainableness of the Law which left every man standing guilty before a Holy Judge.

But though we may disagree on whether Christ was pragmatic, we do find agreement that no man can live by the law Christ laid forth in the Sermon on the Mount. It was for this reason that Christ came to fulfill the Law. He fulfilled the Law on our behalf because we (despite all our pragmatic efforts) cannot. The Holy Judge looks now on a perfect Christ who has suffered and died in our place. He was wounded for our transgressions and his punishment becomes our peace.

Christ does everything the Law requires and dies so that we may live. We are left standing empty handed. Christ has done everything for us and the only thing we have left to do is to trust that he has done so. We can offer no work to achieve it. Faith is the only thing necessary, and even faith is a gift. This, once again, shows us that pragmatism is antithetic to the way Jesus operates.

Thanks again, Bruce, for your comment and thanks again for reading.Rich Tuttlehttp://sounddoxology.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8690015360043647739.post-69946640589523341432014-10-26T06:44:52.160-05:002014-10-26T06:44:52.160-05:00Jesus Christ was a pragmatist 'avant la lettre...Jesus Christ was a pragmatist 'avant la lettre' when he dictated, in his Sermon on the Mount, as a code of conduct, precisely those principles that everyone secretly wished for but, unfortunately, nobody applied to the direction of one's life.

And this inapplicable law still remains the "ideal law" for men, because everyone has always craved, in their own self-interest, to have seen it being practiced by his fellow-creatures.

After two thousand years of unsuccessful efforts, it might be fair to say that man can not live by the law of Christ.Bruce Graemehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08996348896771860371noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8690015360043647739.post-47152736487164182662014-10-13T19:26:06.890-05:002014-10-13T19:26:06.890-05:00Great way to express your honest thoughts, Rich. ...Great way to express your honest thoughts, Rich. I really appreciate what Fernando has to say, and also what he is doing. Hymnists such as Fernando, Keith Getty, and Stuart Townend are an inspiration and encouragement to me. As a hymn writer myself, I strive to write hymns that are solid both theologically and musically. I have written several, but the two that are gaining traction in many churches are a Christmas hymn called "Christmas Prayer" and a Resurrection hymn titled "In Him We Stand." The sheet music for both is available for free at my online ministry, www.freesacredmusic.com.
